The Narcissist who saved himself is a reinterpretation of Caravaggio's Narcissus which was painted in the late 1500s. Narcissus is a mythological figure who became so consumed by vanity that he would not leave his reflection & it lead to his demise.
In Cynthia Howard's rendition, Narcissus reaches passed the mirrored surface to rescue what is underneath. This piece is an exploration on self accountability and doing the inner work, rather than being consumed by superficial distractions
